History

In the wine industry there are many people passionate and knowledgeable about wine. Geir Sviland started with wine back in 1985 when he worked during the harvest in Loire. Since then he has worked in Burgundy (harvest for 3 different producers), Bordeaux, Tuscany, and Rioja during the harvest.

Knowing a little about wine, terroir and philosophy from different winemakers, Geir Sviland started Best Buys International AS in 1996. This company soon became the most important company in the Norwegian wine trade.

Geir’s philosophy has been to bring nothing but the finest wines to the table. It is Sviland’s pleasure to offer you the wines from his hand-chosen, artisanal portfolio. So if you are looking for truly amazing, small production, mouth-watering wines from France, Italy, Spain, Austria and Germany, look no further!

Unfortunately, Geir Sviland was forced to sell his 20% of stocks when the Finnish Spirit Company Altia bought his “baby” in 2004. Geir had to sign a 3-year contract where he had to work for Altia.

17th of December, 2007, this contract came to an end and Geir Sviland has decided to start his new company Better Wines the 18th of December 2007.

Geir Sviland has already shown that he sets the bar at an enormously high level. He has sold, the wines from Andre Brunel, Château de Segries, Domaine Pegau, Château de Campuget, Domaine Peyre Rose, Tardieu Laurent, Lequin-Colin, Jean Max Roger,La Chablisienne, Domaine de Tariquet, Renato Ratti, Produttori del Barbaresco, Paolo Saracco, Giovanni Almondo, Avignonesi, Claudio Viviani, Nigl, Proidl, Weinrieder, Johannes Hirsch, Heidi Schrôck, Gunderloch, Fritz Haag, Weingut Willi Schaefer, Heymann Loewenstein , Muga, Izadi, Finca Villacreces, Mauro and many other good producers.

The wines of Better Wines will be a fascinating reflection of the distinct styles of the best winemakers in the world. We can tell you that we have tasted wine bottles from the greatest legends in the wine world.
